Bloom fuel cells
Fuel Cells Win on Speed, Not on Fuel
- Technology: Bloom's solid-oxide fuel cells convert natural gas to electricity electrochemically, about 53% efficient on gas (up to 90% with heat recovery), with NOx about 92% below the turbines they replaced at Project Jupiter, Oracle says. They are hydrogen-capable, but every data center deployment found runs on gas.
- Speed: Bloom delivered Oracle's first system in 55 days; turbines now take three to five years.
- Scale: about 1.4 GW installed at more than 1,000 sites (October 2025); factory output doubling to 2 GW a year by end of 2026; second-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.065B, up 166%.
- Caution: Hunterbrook reported about $20B of deals marketed against $492.6M of binding obligations in SEC filings, so headline GW figures are frameworks, not orders.
- Cost: AEP's Cheyenne plant works out to about $5,700/kW all-in; Jupiter's switch to fuel cells was reported as costlier than turbines.

Data City
Data City Planned to Run on Hydrogen; It Has Not Been Built
- Developer: Energy Abundance Development Corp. of Houston, formerly Green Hydrogen International, on about 50,000 acres in Webb County near Laredo, off the ERCOT grid.
- Plan: up to 5 GW in three phases, starting with 300 MW on gas turbines, wind, solar and batteries, switching the turbines to hydrogen from its sister project, Hydrogen City, in Duval County.
- Status: no tenant, permit or construction record found; Cleanview lists Phase 1 as canceled, and Hydrogen City has slipped to 2028 or later.
